Veraison 2014

veraison 2014

The first purple berries of veraison appear, as the grapes start to ripen and change colour.  Exciting times in the vineyard:  we can start planning for Harvest.  It also sparks a flurry of activity as we rush to deploy our netting, bird control, and electric fences to defend against the little critters that love our delicious grapes.

Since this summer is a little cooler, we’ll delay Harvest a week or so in the hopes of having the grapes reach optimal ripeness.   It looks like our Harvest Party will span two consecutive Saturdays starting on Thanksgiving Weekend. Volunteers are welcome any time though — so plan ahead to join us for an Autumn day in the fresh air at Broken Stone Winery.
