I posted The End of an Era last year about reliquinshing our stewardship of the beautiful By Chadsey’s Cairns Vineyard. We feared that without our involvement, the vines would be ripped out. Ultimately we pulled a rabbit out the hat and with an expanded line of credit and some belt tightening, we farmed those vineyards for one more year.
After a successful harvest, Micheline and I decided the best course forward is to focus our efforts and resources entirely on Broken Stone Winery for the next couple of years. It’s been a fantastic opportunity to work with the vines at By Chadsey’s Cairns, but we need to shift gears and reduce the amount of working capital and human capital required to run our small winery.
In the interest of keeping the vineyards healthy and perpetuating this legendary vineyard into the future, By Chadsey’s Cairns is interested in partnering with a tenant farmer. The fields and trellis system are in good shape, with three good canes tied down from each vine and well buried for Winter Protection.
This opens a great opportunity for someone who would like to farm some of the older vines in Prince Edward County and carry on a legacy.

Hi Tim/Three Dog’s County Chardonnay 2023 from your grapes produced a barrel Adam shared with his wine club members–I described it as ‘elegant’–thank you.

Thank you for that feedback. The Chardonnay used in the Three Dog wine was from the Applehouse Vineyard. It was a very nice vintage and Adam did a great job with it.
